How to set it up

1

Create an Urgency Message checkout block

Go to Checkout Blocks and create a new block. Select Urgency Message as the type.

2

Configure the countdown

Set the timer duration (15-20 minutes is standard for e-commerce). Add copy: 'Your cart is reserved for 18:32'.

3

Position before payment

Place the block at the Before Payment step — where abandonment rates are highest and urgency has the most impact.

4

Set targeting rules (optional)

You can restrict the timer to high-value carts only (e.g. cart value > $80) to avoid annoying low-consideration buyers.

5

A/B test as a Checkout Test

Run a Checkout Test: control (no timer) vs. timer variant. Measure checkout completion rate as your primary metric.

Pro tips

  • Never use fake timers — customers notice. Make the timer reset if they leave and return.
  • Pair with a 'Selling fast' stock message for high-demand products.
  • Test different durations: 10 min vs 20 min to find the right urgency level.
  • Use neutral, factual language: 'Cart reserved' outperforms aggressive 'Hurry!' messaging.
